John Voorhees and his team have created a software that could revolutionize the way we code. It uses augmented/virtual reality to literally visualize and experience your code. This would be very helpful for coders everywhere. They call it Primitive.

How Does it Work?

As this video shows, this software allows the user to visually follow any stack trace that they wish. They can see how their programs interacts in real time in a detailed, visual way. This software also allows you to literally immerse yourself in your code. It accomplishes this by shutting out everything else, and letting you see everything from the actual code to a full diagram of all the classes.

As can be seen, they seem to be using the HTC Vive, just like the Tilt Brush. This seems to be the choice of VR headset for most developers.

This program is built on the simple concept of trying to improve the lives of coders. By creating a visual representation of your code, this team has already made the programmer’s job much easier and also more fun.

Comments and Opinions

As a programmer, I think that Primitive is an amazing idea. This software would allow the user to be able to run code and analyze how each component works together. This would help programmers debug with increased accuracy. I know it would make my life a lot easier if I could see exactly where a program breaks. It would also be useful for analyzing someone else’s code because you can see how everything is interconnected. Personally, I think that the push towards virtual reality is an amazing goal and any steps towards it make me excited for the future.
