Recently a Japanese company has created a new type of camera that is completely handsfree. This camera attaches to your glasses and can sense when you are deliberately blinking. If it senses a deliberate blink, it takes a picture. This is why they call it the Blincam.

How Does it Work?

The camera, which weighs only 25g, simply attaches your glasses. From there you can take pictures by blinking or winking. These photos are then stored on the internal 32GB memory and can be transferred either via micro usb, or by bluetooth directly to your smart phone or tablet. It has a built in battery that can be charged via the micro usb slot.

As described in the video, there is a sensor that senses eye movement in order to take a picture. This sensor is designed to determine the difference between deliberate and natural blinks/winks.

The goal of this product is to allow you to live your life through your own eyes as opposed to living through the lens of a camera. It lets you document your memories without having to give up experiencing them to the fullest.

Comments and Opinions

I believe that this is an amazing product. Our society experiences hyperreality, or a reality in which we no longer experience the “real” but instead live through altered  versions of our world that we accept as the “real.” For example, when you see tourists recording their surrounding through their iPad without taking their eyes off the screen to look at the site themselves. There are too many people these days that are going about trying to document their entire lives. By doing this they are living their lives through a camera lens, and not fully experiencing it. The Blincam allow the user to go about their daily lives and capture the moments that are important to them, without having to stop to take a picture.
