Do you love to watch TV but do not want it as the centre of attention when it is powered off? Do you want a functional yet still relaxing living space? This might be the solution for you! Panasonic just released a prototype that is verging on what you would see in science fiction. This new prototype is a transparent television that you can control with a wave of your hand. This is an amazing innovation.
What Can Panasonic’s Transparent Television do?
Panasonic’s new TV has amazing functionality that, by using motion capture, essentially eliminates remotes, by making you the remote. It can also, as the name implies, become almost completely transparent. This is useful for people who like having a TV in their living room, but also like having guests over and want the tv to not be the focus of the room. When showing off the prototype at CES 2016 the presenter also showed that it can store or at least access music and photos that can be played and viewed straight from the TV, even simultaneously if you so desire. The presenter also showed that their prototype was able to move up and down on command, to allow people to set the television at the height that works for them.

If you have seen the new Total Recall, or any similar Sci-Fi movie, you can probably see the same potential that I see; the ability to interact with seemingly glass like surfaces.
This new transparent television prototype, coupled with a few others that I have seen recently, including Samsung’s Modular TV and LG’s Rollable Display, give me great hope for the future of TVs. As an avid TV and movie watcher and with an obvious love for technology, these advancements excite me for the possibilities to come. I would be especially excited to see these technologies combined into something even greater. Imagine a transparent television that you could roll up and connect with others to make a larger screen. That would be amazing. The near future holds great possibilities.
