A silicon valley startup company by the name of Speaktoit created a software that allows the user to create their own chatbot. This software has recently been bought by Google. It has had many applications so far and is integrated into a lot of the software that we already use. This software is called api.ai.
Background Information
This software is the upgraded version of Speaktoit’s previous software, Assistant. Assistant was essentially siri for Android, which eventually expanded its platforms to Google and iOS. It uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to interpret user input to determine what to do. Assistant does this using voice recognition software. It allows the Assistant to analyze your speech and hold fairly concise conversations. This led to the ability to create a framework (api) for an Artificial Intelligence (AI), hence api.ai.
How Does it Work?
As aforementioned, this software provides a framework to build upon. This framework allows the user to create their very own “Assistant,” or even simply have voice recognition aspects. One example, that is given on their website, is an interactiveness with slack and their slackbot. api.ai has many other integrations including Facebook Messenger and Skype. This looks like an amazing piece of software. The fact that they have created a framework for a pseudo AI is just incredible. These leaps in Natural Language Processing will hopefully aid in the future creation of a fully functioning, voice recognizing AI.
