I’m sure most of you have already dowloaded this game, but if you have not, here is a bit about it.
This game was created by a company called Niantic. It’s based off of the infrastructure of landmarks built by people who used their previous game, Ingress. Pokemon Go allows the player to run around, catch them all and battle gyms. Released a couple weeks ago in Australia and New Zealand, this game finally came out in Canada this past Sunday.
How Does it Work?
This game gets you to sign in with your google account. With that, it uses google maps to show you where you are in the world. From there, Niantic took all the information about landmarks they gathered from Ingress and turned those into PokeStops. Along with PokeStops, they used the information about user density to help them determine where to spawn the most Pokemon. Once set up, they could start having users join to catch Pokemon and battle gyms.

These two videos just go to show what they originally imagined and what the app has become. They also show off some functionality including PvP (Player versus Player) battles. I want to see this functionality implemented soon.

Pokemon Go is an amazing idea for a game. Not only is it bringing the original first generation Pokemon that many of us grew up with to a new genre of gaming, but it is adding a new twist to a beloved nostalgia filled game.
Needless to say that the release of this game has been very profitable for not only Niantic but also for Nintendo. According to Forbes, the success of the game’s release has bumped up Nintendo’s stock by around $7 billion as of a week ago. This is an amazing win for Nintendo who has historically been solely a console and handheld gaming company. They have finally broken into this new genre of gaming that has been slowly taking over, and probably taking away their business. On another note, this game is amazing because it is getting Pokemon fans from around the world to get out, be active and enjoy the outdoors. The game forces you to go out and explore to find different types of Pokemon. Also, like the original games, it makes you walk a certain distance to hatch Pokemon eggs.
This game is a great way for fans from around the world to come together in friendship and completion. It will allow many to realize their dreams to become Pokemon trainer and to catch them all.
