The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) is a UK based company that deals with technology based innovation. They work with many universities and labs to help bring many ingenious ideas and concepts to life. One such concept could revolutionize the way we fly. This concept is that of a windowless airplane.

How Does it Work?

As this video explains, it is all currently conceptual. But given this, a large amount of their ideas are already possible. Their plan is to eliminate windows from the equation and their reasons are pretty smart. They plan to replace the windows with screens that would cover the expanse of the cabin. This is good for multiple reasons. By eliminating windows they reduce drag, which in turn means less resistance. The windows also weigh more than the screens that they would be implementing. The two of these combined reduce gas usage as well as costs. Since the reduced weight means less fuel is needed, and less fuel also means less weight, the plane can run at a more optimal level. Making a windowless airplane a sleeker, more cost efficient plane. In order to have the screens conform to the different surfaces they would be using OLED screens. These screens would allow people to show any image they wish, as well as surf the internet and watch movies.

Where To Learn More About CPI and Their Windowless Airplane

You can learn more about CPI on their website and you can learn more about their planes in their article about them. You can also read an article written by the Daily Mail. These all give more in depth explanations of their plans.

Comments and Opinions

A windowless airplane is a very interesting idea. The ability to use the screens to be able to show the outside would give the impression that you yourself are flying. These planes will also be more cost efficient and aerodynamic. The ability to be able to use an entire wall to work with as opposed to the tiny screens that they have now would be amazing. The only downside, that I can see, is for people who are claustrophobic and need to be able to see out of the window into the real world, as opposed to a screen showing them what is outside. This concept could revolutionize the way that we fly.
