With the recent release of the newest Star Wars Movie, there has been an increase to the already giant hype that the series already had. This craze, which I am a full supporter of, has led to many new fans, and has given a New Hope to old fans for the coming trilogy. Not only has it inspired many people in the form of cosplay and fan fiction but one engineer had taken it upon himself to attempt to make a real life lightsaber.
Who Built this Real Life Lightsaber?
An engineer by the name Allen Pan, built his own version of the famed weapons. You may know him for his previous work, where he made his own version of Mjölnir, Thor’s hammer, that could only be lifted by him.
After his success with Mjölnir, he decided to set his sights on making a working lightsaber.
How does it work?
As the video below explains it uses a methanol/acetone fuel mixture with butane as an accelerant. It uses a nichrome ignition system to electronically light the mixture. It also has a built sound effects generator, so you get the full Jedi experience.
Here is Allen and a few other famous YouTubers using and testing out his invention. They even tried attacking each other.
Comments and Opinions
I think this is really amazing and a cool invention. As a Star Wars fan I am really excited for when they have perfected this technology and have it working and looking just like in the movies. This is definitely the closest that we have come to a working lightsaber.
