A Texas based company has recently developed the technology to project simple holographic images. These projections are the closest representation we have to the holograms shown in science fiction. This product was designed with many users in mind, ranging from architects to artists to programmers. They call this product Holovect.

How Does it Work?

As this video describes these images are being created using vectors that can be created in realtime or uploaded via USB. Allowing for the user to create a 3D model that can be easily altered.

These images are only visible because the creators of this product have a deep understanding of physics and how light reacts in different environments. Taking these principles into account, they determined that by modulating the air around the beams of light they were able to have the beams reflect off the light creating floating 3D image.

Where Can You Learn More About The Holovect?

You can learn more about it on their website or on their Kickstarter campaign. They had another campaign that was not as successful, but their latest one raised just over 1.5 times their goal ($70,742 for their $45,000 USD goal).

Comments and Opinions

I think that Holovect an amazing project. Since my childhood I have always dreamed of having technology with interactive holographic interfaces. This is the closest that we have come to fully functioning holograms.

As a kid, when I dreamed of the future, I dreamed of hover boards, virtual reality environments that you could walk through and holographic environments that you could interact with. I know we are a long way off but this an amazing and essential step towards this future. I can already imagine having a video chat with someone where they are projected into the same room as you so that it feels like they are right there with you.
